Saturdays at Greenpoint Av Draw 82% of a Weekday's Riders

The ten stations only the G serves took a median 38,200 entries on a 2025 Saturday and 30,100 on a Sunday, against 49,700 on a weekday. Greenpoint Av and Nassau Av each pass 7,200 riders on a typical Saturday, more than 80% of their weekday count. A north-segment closure weekend removes about 40,500 of those entries; on shutdown Saturdays the same stations record 1 to 31.

Weekend ridership on the G runs at three-quarters of weekday ridership. Across the ten G-only stations, Saturday entries run at 77% of a weekday and Sunday at 61%. At the four Greenpoint and Williamsburg stations (21 St through Broadway) Saturday reaches 71% to 90% of the weekday figure. Whatever the case for weekend work, it is not that nobody rides.

Each north-segment closure weekend displaces about 40,500 entries at the six stations from 21 St to Myrtle-Willoughby, the Saturday and Sunday medians combined. A south-segment weekend displaces about 27,800 at Classon Av, Clinton-Washington Avs and Fulton St plus Bedford-Nostrand's normal load, which stays open as the terminal.

Method. Medians are taken over every Saturday, Sunday and weekday of 2025 from the MTA's hourly ridership dataset, summed to daily totals per station complex. "Shut Sat" is the median of Saturday entries on the weekends the closure calendar flags the station as closed, Jan 2025 to Aug 2026; the handful of taps recorded on those days are staff and riders entering before a late-starting closure.

Why these ten stations. They are the only stations on the subway served by the G alone. Court Sq, Hoyt-Schermerhorn and the Bergen St to Church Av stations are shared with other lines, so their turnstile counts cannot isolate G riders.
