Who fixes NYC’s park restrooms

Plumbers account for over a third of restroom repair labor

Labor cost booked to Parks restroom buildings by trade, 2010 to October 2026, with hours worked. Top 10 trades.

Source: NYC Parks, Asset Management Parks System: Labor (xzj8-i3jk) and Work Orders (8sdw-8vja), NYC Open Data Note: Cost = hours × the title’s base hourly rate (Plumber $56.86 in 2025), with no fringe benefits or overhead. 38 bookings over 24 hours were dropped as entry errors.

Daily cleaning and restocking by park workers is logged in a separate dataset that does not separate restroom work from the rest of a park, so it is not in these totals.

How restroom buildings were identified: 696 buildings in Parks’ asset system whose description names a public restroom, comfort station or bathroom. Data pulled: October 16, 2026, from the NYC Open Data API. Construction totals by project: the NYC Parks Capital Project Tracker lists 23 completed single-site new restroom buildings with a median total of $3.865M.
